Portland Publishers

For publishers in Portland, Oregon

I have been in Daegu, South Korea for nearly a week working at an English Language school named E.C.C. For all you editors out there, this is a really interesting (and challenging) way of using your editing skills. I am working with kindergarten through middle-school students. Back in Portland I would spend hours ensuring that documents had the correct em or en dashes, here I help students understand why there is no "twenteen". For those of you having trouble finding good publishing jobs, something like this might be a good opportunity for you. The hours are long, but you can still work on personal or freelance projects in your freetime.

I will be posting a regular blog as soon as I have regular internet access and I will make sure to let everyone here know about it. Hopefully soon pictures, video, and all that jazz!

One of my favorite ESOL stories involves a student who wrote "firstable" in one of his papers. I asked him what he meant. He said, "You know--firstable, secondtable..." It was really quite clever how he took words that he had heard and tried to spell them correctly.

I agree with Pamela; please tell us more.
